I am really getting sick and tired with these national bodies nowadays. They are for the degrees, whereas there are many professors, esp from the older schools, who have great research records but cannot progress because they don’t have the required degree. Then there is the mandatory waiting period for getting promoted to the next level which is a hindrance for the ones who complete degrees pretty late. There is hardly any post doc opening in India but it is considered a desirable qualification for appointment to nits. They do not award NBA to a lot of departments but many third rate institute have some departments accreditated magically. The NAAC ranking is not beyond doubt as I see a ton of them from the NCR and Chandigarh areas. The nirf gives a huge weight age to citation counts and impact factors but as is well known these are not very reliable measures. They are not even sure what to do with net exam, but because of this many potential jrf s have their fate in uncertain territories. (Forget about recruitment to assistant prof position as only doctoral candidates are considered).
I won’t be surprised just like the planning commission and fipb, same fate happens for ugc and aicte. Modi may chuck these entities to the waters of the Arabian sea very soon.
